Potassium hydroxide, sometimes known as caustic potash, is an inorganic chemical with the formula KOH. KOH is a classic strong base, along with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It has numerous industrial and specialty applications, the majority of which take advantage of its caustic nature and acid reactivity.

Solid KOH crystallises in the NaCl crystal structure at higher temperatures. The OH group is either quickly or randomly disordered, resulting in a spherical anion of radius 1.53 (between Cl and F in size). The OH groups are ordered at room temperature, and the environment around the K+ centres is distorted, with K+OH distances ranging from 2.69 to 3.15 depending on the orientation of the OH group. KOH crystallises into a succession of crystalline hydrates, including the monohydrate KOH H2O, dihydrate KOH 2H2O, and tetrahydrate KOH 4H2O.
